Human Patient Simulators and Interactive Case Studies
نویسنده
چکیده
Recent technological advances have enhanced the capa bility of human patient simulators (HPS) to duplicate clinical situations so that students can practice decisionmaking skills in a controlled environment. When using HPS, nursing students experience a real-life patient prob lem and follow the nursing process through interactions with the HPS. Students collect data from the HPS through the assessment process, analyze this information, and in tervene based on the patient situation. Human patient simulators are programmed to respond by determining the outcome of the student’s intervention—the simulated patient either recovers from the problem after receiving proper treatment or dies as the result of omitting a nec essary intervention or implementing an inappropriate intervention. While nursing faculty are amazed and en thralled with the technology and innovativeness of this teaching method, HPS are expensive, costing between $30 000 and $150 000 each. The time required for faculty training, as well as the time required to program the clinical scenarios, must also be considered when cal culating the expenses associated with this teaching strategy. Additionally, physical space must be allocated for the storage and operation of the HPS, adding further to the cost of this instructional device. Interactive Spline Modelling of Human Organs for Surgical Simulators
This paper investigates a new method of interactive modelling to approximate position and shape of real patients’ organs. The method is particularly successful in that it greatly reduces the time needed to create patient specific models. KisMo [1] is an interactive graphics based modelling software for creating 3D models with elastodynamic behaviour for use with VS-One the Virtual Endoscopic Su...

Interactive simulations and virtual environments can play a significant role in facilitating learning through engagement, immediate feedback and by providing real-world contexts. Interactive 3D interfaces have a significant impact on the user interface usability and interactivity. We present several case-studies that have evolved from actual teaching observations and have been implemented using...
متن کاملInteractive educational diabetes simulators: a look to the future.
507 IN THE LAST TWO “Diabetes Information Technology & WebWatch” columns1,2 various user experience with two freeware interactive educational “virtual diabetes patient” simulators—called AIDA and AIDA online—were documented. In this column a look is made to the future—and various more sophisticated ways in which users may interact with future generations of such simulation programs are considered.
